UAAP: UP Maroon booters secure Final 4 incentive

MANILA, Philippines—Jinggoy Valmayor slotted in two goals for University of the Philippines in the 2-0 shutout of University of the East, which nailed the second Final Four incentive in the UAAP season 76 men’s football tournament.

The Fighting Maroons, last year’s losing finalists, moved up to 22 points to assure themselves of a No. 2 finish at the end of the elimination round.

Valmayor, a former rookie of the year in the UAAP and national under-23 standout, hiked his total goal output for the season to a league-best of nine.

In the other men’s match, University of Santo Tomas nipped erstwhile champion Ateneo, 2-1, to clinch the third semifinals berth.

With 17 points, UST moved up to third place after league-leading FEU downed La Salle, 2-1.  The Tamaraws hold 30 out of the maximum 33 points.
