MANILA, Philippines — Low handicappeers Paul Salvador and Raymund Sangil put themselves in a position for a rare double after showing the way in both the overall gross and net competition on Day 4 of the 30th edition of the Mango Tee Invitational, the member-guest golf tournament of the Alabang Country Club presented by Petron, Smart Infinity and Pancake House/Yellow Cab.
Salvador and Sangil had aggregate rounds of 136 for gross and 150 to stay on track for a rare double victory in the prestigious event that has attracted 800 players.
Salvador-Sangil posted a hefty 16-point lead in gross play and were able to snag a one-point lead in the net battle with a 150.
At least a dozen other frontrunners still have a chance of winning in the six-day event which stakes about P10 million worth of prizes.
A Mercedes-Benz C-Class, a Toyota FT-86, a Mitsubishi Pajero, and a Chevrolet Spin plus golf carts from Texas Eagle, Club Car and Yamaha, APE motorcycles and a pricey Canon camera are staked as hole-in-one prizes.
Henry Medina and his guest partner Wilfredo Roldan paced Class B, Mina Attwood and Daisy Jackes led Class C and Roberto Manabat-Gaudencio Hernandez was on top in Class D of the tournament which has Pepsi, Turf Co., Pacific Links, Royal Caribbean, Food Details, Chivas Regal, Business Mirror, TW Steel, Solaire, Wendy’s, Mizuno and PacSports as major sponsors.
Attwood and Jackes, among the 20 female players that were finally accepted in the Mango Tee, were five ahead of Rey and Victor Icasas with their 138 total. Medina and Roldan led Arnel Ilas and Glodoveo Fortuna by one with their 138 and Manabat-Hernandez was three up with their 135.
