MANILA, Philippines — University of Santo Tomas reclaimed the throne in the UAAP girls’ volleyball competition on Saturday after escaping National University in three games.
Ennajie Laure paced the Junior Tigresses in the 25-16, 22-25, 25-22, 25-22 nipping of the Lady Bullpups in game 3 at the UE Caloocan Gym.
Laure, the daughter of former PBA swingman Eddie Laure, was adjudged the most valuable player of the girls’ division, along with the best attacker citation.
Ennajie’s sister and teammate Enya Laure was named best setter while Pauline Marie Gaston the best blocker of season 76.
The last time the Juniors Tigresses held the crown was back in 2009-2010 season, when the likes of Ateneo star Alyssa Valdez and La Salle setter Kim Fajardo delivered the three-peat for UST.
It was a come-from-behind victory for UST, which lost to the Lady Bullpups in game one before taking the last two matches of the series.
NU’s Faith Jannine Nisperos was awarded the Rookie of the Year plum while teammate Kristine Magallanes the best setter.
