MANILA—Collegiate fighters get the chance to test their skills when they see action in the Colt 45-Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) University Challenge 2011 on September 9 at One Esplanade in Pasay.
The mixed martial arts event, now on its sixth year, will feature 16 amateur fights, including those of pinweight JR Rulloda and welterweight Meeshal Al Khuzeem of De La Salle University.
Unlike in pro tournaments, fights in the University Challenge will have three 5-minute rounds and the fighters are compelled to wear head gears for protection. The opening match is scheduled at 7 p.m.
“This is going to be an interesting tournament since collegiate fighters are out to prove something, and most of them want to win the bragging rights as the best in their respective divisions,” said URCC founder and president Alvin Aguilar.
Other fighters out to make an impact in the event presented by Colt 45 and backed by Tribal Gear, Solar Sports, Rogue Magazine, 99.5Rt, Synermaxx, TFC Bro, and Pinoy Extreme Channel are Jonie Cinco, Robin Pajantoy, Jay-R Bermoy, Ronald Castro and Jet Hermida.
