LSGH takes on Ateneo in 2 MYBall title clashes
MANILA, Philippines — Ateneo forged a two-division championship duel with La Salle Green Hills next week after the Blue Eaglets claimed the remaining title berths in the stepladder semifinals of the Growee-MYBall Metro Invitational last weekend at LSGH Gym.
The Greenies jumped straight to the finals after sweeping the elimination round of both the Mini (9-11 age group) and Contender (12-14) divisions.
In Mini action, the No. 3 Blue Eaglets overwhelmed the second-seeded Marist, 67-45, behind the 16-point effort of Miggy Salvador last Sunday.
The Blue Eaglets earlier dumped fourth-ranked Lourdes School of Mandaluyong, 76-48, as Elijah Nadal and Blue Manuel combined for 20 points.
Needing only one win to advance in Contender, the No. 2 Blue Eaglets, with Gian Mamuyac delivering 10 points, ousted National University, 74-65, also last Sunday.
The Bullpups advanced earlier as Sydney Mosqueda unloaded 17 points in their 97-54 ripping of Don Bosco Technical Institute.
The two title clashes are set this Sunday with the defending champion Greenies toting a twice-to-beat advantage as incentive for their perfect 7-0 run in both divisions.
In the side event, nine pairs will see action in the final round of the Growee Father and Son 2Ball Shootout.
The Mini division will feature Ateneo-A’s Blue and Chico Manuel, Ateneo-B’s Gelo and Ogie Gapasin, LSGH’s Dominic and Don Panlilio, and Lourdes’ Jeremy and Steven Siebert.
Vying for the championship in the Contender division are Ateneo-A’s Jonas and Gil Salandanan, Ateneo-B’s Cholo and Rick Deonio, LSGH’s Benedict and Allan Cruz, and NU’s Drazen and Dong Fernandez and Earl and Wilson Lagaras.
