MANILA, Philippines — A talented field led by reigning world 13-14 champion Kristopher Arevalo tees off on Tuesday for the 19th WWWExpress Amateur Golf championship presented by the MVP Sports Foundation at Canlubang’s North layout in Laguna.

The 72-hole event is also being held in honor of the late Rod Feliciano, the tournament’s founder and past president of the organizing National Golf Association of the Philippines.

Del Monte’s squad in the coming Philippine Airlines Interclub will be in full force to hone up for the Regular Men’s tournament firing off in Bacolod the week after.

Products of Del Monte’s grassroots program led by Mel Cubillo and Magno Arancon will be among the favorites for one of the most prestigious amateur crowns in the land owing to their experience in playing big events.

FEATURED STORIES

Feliciano, who served as NGAP president from 2000 to 2004 before becoming its honorary chair, passed away last year, but not after dedicating time and resources into helping local amateur golf.

The event is part of the PLDT Group Amateur tour. Registration is ongoing at the NGAP offices. For inquiries, call 7065926, 9250022 or the Canlubang office at 049-5491363 or 049-5497202.

Meanwhile, the NGAP will be hosting a rules seminar to be conducted by the Royal & Ancient of Scotland on March 15 and 16 at the Alabang Golf Club.

Those interested to join the seminar can also course their inquiries through the NGAP. The R&A has sanctioned all of the NGAP’s events ever since Tommy Manotoc took over as the local golf body’s president two years ago.
