MANILA, Philippines – Just when things couldn’t get any worse for Rain or Shine Sunday, the Elasto Painters could miss the services of Ryan Araña for Game 3.
ROS head coach Yeng Guiao said Araña is “doubtful” for Wednesday’s game after the rugged swingman hurt his left collarbone in the first half of the Painters’ 70-80 loss to San Mig Coffee in Game 2 of the 2014 PLDT MyDSL Philippine Cup championship series.
“I think Ryan (Araña) is still doubtful [for Game 3]. We’re still waiting for a word on the hospital on his status,” said Guiao.
“Yung collarbone niya mukhang medyo nakausli kanina (his collarbone appeared protruded earlier).”
Guiao said Araña was in pain after he took a hit on a screen set by Reavis.
Without Araña in the final three quarters, the Painters lost a key contributor on both ends.
“It was a huge loss for us because Ryan’s one of our best slashers and he gives us a lot of points inside,” said ROS guard Chris Tiu. “And not only that, he’s a tough defender. He can guard James, PJ and Joe so we lost that.”
PJ Simon had 15 points while James Yap and Joe Devance finished with 13 apiece for the Mixers.
And the way Game 2 went, Rain or Shine would certainly need Araña back quickly.
