MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern U moved on the cusp of a rare UAAP title football double following contrasting victories by its men and women’s teams at the start of their respective best-of-three finals series Thursday at FEU Diliman pitch.
Coming out strong in extra time, the Tamaraws hacked out a 4-1 victory over University of the Philippines in the men’s finals.
The women’s side leaned on Ina Araneta’s late goal to subdue University of Santo Tomas, 1-0, in their series opener.
The two FEU teams can clinch the titles with victories in Game 2 on Sunday.
Striker Jess Melliza sparked the attack, scoring and setting up one of the Tamaraws’ three goals in extra time.
