Lady Falcons just incredible

MANILA, Philippines–Still no team came close to Adamson as the Lady Falcons bagged their fourth straight UAAP softball championship with a another perfect season.

MVP Analie Benjamen powered the Lady Falcons past National University, 8-1, in a Game 2 finals win that extended their incredible domination of the sport to 48 games Friday at Rizal Memorial ballpark.

Unbeaten since 2010, the Lady Falcons hold the longest streak in any sport in the league.

“The 48-game winning streak, it’s just a bonus for us,” said Adamson coach Ana Santiago. “We already made history in the UAAP, but what’s important is that we’re champions.”

Benjamen, also named Best Slugger, scored two runs and struck out five Lady Bulldogs, who were held scoreless in the first five innings.

Last season’s MVP Rizza Bernardino won Best Pitcher and Most Homeruns, while Tata Embudo picked up the Best Hitter award.

The Lady Falcons, who also blasted the Lady Bulldogs, 11-3, in Game 1, captured their 13th overall championship in the last 17 years.

Adamson, though, stand as the underdogs in women’s volleyball when the fourth-ranked Lady Falcons take on the Ateneo Lady Eagles at the start of the stepladder semifinals at 4 p.m. Saturday at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Falcons wound up tied at fourth with Far Eastern University at the end of the eliminations, but clinched the last semifinal berth after winning in their sudden-death match last Wednesday.
