MANILA, Philippines —PBA Board vice chairman and San Miguel Beer governor Ely Capacio passed away Sunday due to a ruptured aneurysm. He was 58.

Capacio played eight seasons in the PBA before steering Purefoods (now San Mig Coffee) to its first all-Filipino championship in 1991, according to league’s head statistician Fidel Mangonon.

“Ely, you will be missed. Your PBA family condoles with your wife Vicky and your children on your passing,” PBA Commissioner Chito Salud said in a statement.

“You have touched and enriched our lives as a great basketball player, coach, corporate executive and former chairman of the PBA Board of Governors. Join our Creator in peace. Farewell, our dear friend,” the statement read.

Capacio is the older brother Glen, also a former pro and current GlobalPort Batang Pier assistant coach.
