MANILA, Philippines — National University hopes to sustain its bid for a double crown as it vies for championship berths in the UAAP volleyball tournament Wednesday.

The No. 1 Bulldogs clash with Adamson in the men’s semifinals at 2 p.m., while the Lady Bulldogs tackle Ateneo in women’s action at 4 p.m. at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Although the NU squads hold twice-to-beat edges, both teams will aim for a quick finish.

Ateneo claimed the first finals seat in the men’s division following a comeback from two sets down against Far Eastern U, 23-25, 19-25, 25-17, 28-26, 15-13, last Sunday.

La Salle, meanwhile, leaped straight to the women’s finals and earned a thrice-to-beat bonus after a 14-0 run in the eliminations.

The sweep left the other semifinalists to fight for the last title slot in a stepladder battle starting last Sunday, where the No. 3 Lady Eagles disposed of the fourth-ranked Lady Falcons, 26-24, 25-23, 25-21, behind team star Alyssa Valdez.

The Lady Eagles advanced against the second-seeded Lady Bulldogs, who will be led by the towering sisters Dindin and Jaja Santiago.

In baseball, Ateneo tries to complete its bid for twin titles as the Blue Eaglets collide with La Salle Zobel in the winner-take-all juniors finals at Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

Bannered by MVP and Best Pitcher Andy Tan, the Blue Eagles bagged the men’s crown last week by sweeping La Salle in the best-of-three title series, 2-0.

The Junior Archers forged the do-or-die after a 7-6 victory that also snapped the Blue Eaglets’ 10-game winning streak.
