NU spikers eye double UAAP finals slots
MANILA, Philippines — National University hopes to sustain its bid for a double crown as it vies for championship berths in the UAAP volleyball tournament Wednesday.
The No. 1 Bulldogs clash with Adamson in the men’s semifinals at 2 p.m., while the Lady Bulldogs tackle Ateneo in women’s action at 4 p.m. at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Although the NU squads hold twice-to-beat edges, both teams will aim for a quick finish.
Article continues after this advertisementAteneo claimed the first finals seat in the men’s division following a comeback from two sets down against Far Eastern U, 23-25, 19-25, 25-17, 28-26, 15-13, last Sunday.
La Salle, meanwhile, leaped straight to the women’s finals and earned a thrice-to-beat bonus after a 14-0 run in the eliminations.
The sweep left the other semifinalists to fight for the last title slot in a stepladder battle starting last Sunday, where the No. 3 Lady Eagles disposed of the fourth-ranked Lady Falcons, 26-24, 25-23, 25-21, behind team star Alyssa Valdez.

Bannered by MVP and Best Pitcher Andy Tan, the Blue Eagles bagged the men’s crown last week by sweeping La Salle in the best-of-three title series, 2-0.
The Junior Archers forged the do-or-die after a 7-6 victory that also snapped the Blue Eaglets’ 10-game winning streak.
