Talk ‘N Text’s Ali Peek announces retirement

MANILA, Philippines — After 16 fruitful seasons in the PBA, Ali Peek has decided to call it a career.

The 39-year-old Peek announced his retirement on Twitter Wednesday afternoon.

“2day I retire from professional basketball. I thank my family, loved ones, friends, teams, coaches, management, and God :) what a ride!” Peek wrote.

The Fil-American Peek, who was drafted third overall by the defunct Pop Cola Panthers in 1998, won six championships, five of which as a member of the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters.

Peek almost had his career cut short after facing a life-threatening incident when he was shot in the neck in 2011.

Peek is an undersized center at six-foot-four but his hulking frame made him an imposing presence on both ends of the floor.
