MANILA, Philippines — National University clinched a title berth in men’s action, but failed to do the same in the women’s side of the UAAP volleyball tournament Wednesday at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The No. 1 Bulldogs stayed on track of their title defense as they drubbed Adamson, 25-19, 25-19, 25-18, in their semifinal duel.
Reuben Inaudito posted four blocks and a couple of service aces in a 14-point performance to lead the Bulldogs, who will go up against Ateneo in the best-of-three championship starting Saturday.
Ateneo, though, stunned the No. 2 Lady Bulldogs, 25-17, 12-25, 31-29, 28-26, to forge a do-or-die match for the last title berth in the women’s division.
Alyssa Valdez erupted for 29 points built on 24 attacks, three service aces and a couple of blocks to power the streaking Lady Eagles anew in the stepladder semis.
The Lady Eagles and the Lady Bulldogs meet anew on Saturday. The winner will face La Salle, which has a thrice-to-beat edge after a 14-0 sweep of the eliminations.
