UAAP: FEU booters sweep all 3 divisions
MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern University made UAAP history over the weekend by becoming the first school to complete a three-division sweep of the football tournament.
The Baby Tamaraws shut out the Ateneo Blue Eaglets, 2-0, Saturday at the FEU-Dilliman pitch to clinch the junior championship after dominating the men’s and women’s competitions last week.
Janryl Balanueco copped the juniors Most Valuable Player plum while fellow FEU booters Earl Laguerta (Rookie of the Year), Gilbert Mendoza (Best Striker) and Dominique Canonigo (Best Midfielder) also secured individual honors.
Article continues after this advertisementAteneo, led by Zach Banzon (Best Goalkeeper) and Timothy Perdegon (Best Defender), was the only team to push unbeaten FEU to a draw—2-2—in the eliminations.
But the Baby Tamaraws were just too good in the finals opener, with a 4-1 win.
Last week, the Tamaraws swept University of the Philippines to reclaim the men’s championship while the Lady Tamaraws retained the women’s crown at the expense of University of Santo Tomas.
