MANILA, Philippines–If there’s one man who knows how to best play windswept The Country Club—and win there with regularity—it can only be Angelo Que.
The jolly 35-year-old looms as the best Filipino hope when the $300,000 Solaire Open tees off on Thursday at the exclusive layout.
Que is aiming to snap a long victory drought on the Asian Tour over a course where he has scored multiple, multimillion-peso victories.
“I am always confident playing in front of my countrymen,” Que said during preparations for the 72-hole event where most of the region’s best are entered. “I like the feeling that everyone is behind you and supporting you.”
He has won three pro tournaments at TCC while finishing runner-up once.
Former TCC Invitational winners Frankie Miñoza, Cassius Casas and Antonio Lascuña also head the local challenge against a crack foreign field that includes former Philippine Open champion Mardan Mamat of Singapore, Thai veterans Prayad Marksaeng and Thaworn Wiratchant.
