UST, CEU lasses keep slate clean

MANILA, Philippines — Centro Escolar University and University of Santo Tomas outclassed their rivals to stay unbeaten while La Salle finally played like a true champion to demolish Fatima in the 3rd Pilipinas Chinese Amateur Basketball League (PCABL) Dickies Women’s Cup held over the weekend at CEU Lumera Tower gym in Legarda, Manila.

With Janine Pontejos scoring a triple in every quarter and Demi Lou Villanueva putting on a big fourth quarter show, CEU brought last year’s losing finalist College of St. Benilde down to earth with a 79-57 victory for its second win in as many games.

Not to be outdone, the UST Tigresses leaned on a decisive third quarter onslaught to beat the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws, 74-63, in the tournament presented by Dickies and sponsored by Smart Telecom, Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, Power House, CW Home Depot, Dickies Underwear and Hapee.

With her four triples, Pontejos went on to finish with 18 markers while Villanueva scored all but two her 11 points in the fourth quarter that kept the Lady Blazers at bay.

Protecting a slim 36-30 lead at halftime, the Tigresses went to Mariel Isanan and Jhenn Angeles to outscore the Lady Tamaraws, 24-11, in the third for a commanding 60-41 advantage going into the final fourth quarter.

Isanan sizzled with 19 points while Angeles chipped in 17.

La Salle clobbered Fatima, 107-53, behind Camille Claro and Cassandra Santos.
