NU pulls off UAAP tennis sweep
MANILA, Philippines — Upholding its reputation as a rising power in the UAAP, National University completed a sweep of Season 76 tennis championships.
Powered by Most Valuable Player Fritz Chris Verdad, NU retained the men’s title with a 3-2 victory over University of the Philippines at the PCA covered courts in Paco, Manila, recently.
Also part of the powerhouse NU squad that extended their perfect run to 22 matches since last season were Leander Lazaro, John Jeric Accion, Jhun Anthony Alcoseba, Arc Dolorito, Al Khady Jainul, Dheo Talatayod, Juan Gabriel Peña and Al Michael Madrio. With MVP Anna Christine Patrimonio as spearhead, the Lady Bulldogs dethroned La Salle, 3-2, at Olivares Sports Complex.
Kimberly Kaye Uytico, Junnalyn Polito, Marie Gold Nagret, Anna Vienna Biernes, Jzash Eale Canja, Aziel Narah Manantan, Eren Louise Penados and Hanna Grace Espinosa are also part of the NU squad which earned plaudits from the university’s board chair Hans Sy.
“The hard work and patience the team members put into the season reaped fruits that the school never experienced before,” said Sy, also president of SM Prime Holdings.
