MANILA, Philippines — Treat Huey and Ruben Gonzales will be around when the ITF men’s circuit swings by the Philippines for the first time in 18 years.
However, they won’t see action in singles but will instead leave the campaign for the unranked Filipino campaigners, four of whom are expected to get wild card entries in the meet.
Philippine Tennis Association officials said Huey will be in the country for the $15,000 Futures also known as Olivarez Cup-Philippine International Tennis Championships but only as a television commentator.
Gonzales, on the other hand, will play only in doubles, possibly in partnership with Indonesian Sonchat Ratiwatana.
Sources said officials didn’t want to risk injuries on Huey and Gonzales, who will banner the Davis Cup semifinals against Sri Lanka in Manila.
