Female stars rule UAAP
MANILA, Philippines — The ladies had the last say on the final day of UAAP Season 76 as La Salle’s chess standout Jan Jodilyn Fronda and Far Eastern U’s basketball star Camille Sambile shared the seniors Athlete of the Year honor Wednesday in the league’s closing ceremony.
University of the East’s fencing ace Divine Romero also copped the top individual honor in the juniors division during the formal rites at Century Park Hotel in Manila.
Fronda, a three-time MVP, powered the Lady Archers to a fourth straight women’s chess championship.
Sambile, a 5-foot-9 forward, capped a stellar career with MVP and Mythical Team honors after powering the Lady Tamaraws to back-to-back championships in Seasons 74 and 75.
Romero, meanwhile, led UE’s three-division sweep of fencing.
