MANILA, Philippines — Hoping to promote Dagupan as a sports venue, the city will host the Tri-Bangus Dagupan Invitational Triathlon on April 13 in Pangasinan.
The race, which aims to draw some of the sport’s best, will feature the 1.5 K swim–40K bike–10K run standard distance and the 750m swim-20K bike-5K run sprint distance starting at Bonuan Beach.
The bike route will be at De Venecia highway while the run leg will start at AB Fernandez Ave. and end at CSI Stadia grounds.
A total cash prize of P67,000 and trophies will be awarded to the top three male and female elite open finishers.
Dagupan City mayor Belen Fernandez said the event aims to showcase the city as an ideal venue for the 2015 National Age-Group Triathlon (NAGT) series leg and for grassroots events for young triathletes.
The race, which will coincide with Dagupan’s annual Bangus Festival, will also stage “Kids Can Run” race, a fun run for kids aged 6 to 12 years old as a side event.
A race briefing will be held a day before the race at the Mayor’s Pavilion at Bonuan Beach followed by the distribution of race packets and a carbo-loading dinner. Interested participants may avail of the early bird rate for sprint (P1,500), standard (P2,500) and relay (P4,500) until April 1.
Each racer will receive a race bib, an official race shirt, a finisher’s medal, a post-event brunch and event freebies. For inquiries, call Melvin Fausto at 09175808540, Cicel Reyna at 09175665393 and Arnold Carinan at 09176061068 or e-mail dagupantrifest2014@gmail.com.
