MANILA, Philippines — A brace from Izzo El-Habbib boosted Global to a 3-0 blanking of Pachanga PLDT Home Fibr and into a top spot of the United Football League Tuesday night at Emperador Stadium in Taguig City.
Relegated to the bench due to injury for most part of the season, El Habbib struck twice for the third straight match as Dan Palami’s side grabbed the lead for the first time this season with 34 points, two ahead of erstwhile leader Loyola Meralco.
Global got off to a blistering start with Jeffrey Christiaens scoring the opener three minutes into the match with a clever lob over Pachanga keeper Steve Yambou.
“As much as we are happy with the win, we also know we have a long way to go and there is no time to be complacent,” said Palami.
Earlier, Kaya demolished a listless Pasargad, 9-0, matching its most convincing victory this season.
The win, which put third place Kaya just seven points off the lead, saw eight different scorers for coach David Perkovic.
