MANILA, Philippines — Arellano emptied its bench and got the right combination to rout Southwestern University, 25-15, 25-17, 25-19, Thursday in the 11th Shakey’s V-League First Conference.

All but one from the 13 hitters of the Lady Chiefs contributed at least a point with Danna Hemson and Cristina Rosario leading with 13 and 12, respectively.

“I really wanted to use all of my players today,” said Arellano head coach Roberto Javier.

But despite the domination of the taller Arellano side, Javier wants his players to assert its edge in height and be more formidable in blocking.

The Lady Chiefs had a huge 7-0 edge in service winners but scored less than the visiting Lady Cobras on blocks, 3-4.

“We’re a big team but we need to improve a lot on our blocking,” Javier said.

None from the Cebu-based SWU squad, which dropped its first assignment, finished in double digits with Marlyn Llagoso topscoring with eight markers.
