MANILA, Philippines — Former flyweight champion Brian Viloria fought off rust early to beat Juan Herrera via unanimous decision Sunday (Manila time) at the Texas Station Casino in Las Vegas.

Viloria (33-4, 19KOs) got the judges’ nod, 98-92, 98-92 and 97-93.

The bout marked the 33-year-old Viloria’s first fight since losing to Juan Estrada last April.

According to a report by boxingscene.com, Viloria controlled the match with his jab before letting his hands go midway through the 10-rounder but wasn’t really able to hit a blow that was solid enough to “seriously hurt” Herrera.

Viloria, however, landed enough punches to get the victory.

Viloria gets back into the ring not long after with another match on May 31 in Macau.
