MANILA, Philippines — College of St. Benilde blew a two-set advantage before holding off Cebu’s Southwestern University, 25-23, 25-23, 15-25, 23-25, 15-9, in the Shakey’s V-League Season 11 First Conference Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Blazers leaned on three players with Therese Veronas leading the way with 24 points.
Jeanette Panaga and Maureen Loren added 20 and 16 points, respectively to fill in the void left by Jannine Navarro for the debuting CSB. Navarro, one of the Lady Blazers’ main scorers, missed the game due to health issues.
St. Benilde went on a 6-0 run that turned a 3-4 deficit to a 9-4 lead in the fifth set.
The Lady Blazers won despite committing 42 errors as compared to the Lady Cobras’ 27.
SWU, which drew 17 points from Janelle Cabahug, abrsorbed its second straight loss after beating St. Louis in its first game.
CSB appeared on its way to a straight sets win after leading, 19-13, and 23-19 before SWU fought back and forged a decider.
Janelle Cabahug paced the Lady Cobras, whose other loss came at the hands off Arellano, with 17 points.
The Lady Blazers take on the Arellano Lady Chiefs in their next game on Thursday in a battle of two NCAA semifinalists.
