MANILA, Philippines — Czarina Berbano tallied 19 points as San Sebastian outlasted three-time defending NCAA champion Perpetual Help, 25-18, 17-25, 27-25, 23-25, 15-13, in the Shakey’s V-League Season 11 First Conference Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Both teams were missing key players with Gretchel Soltones sitting the game out for the Lady Stags with an ankle injury while Honey Royse Tubino was out for the Lady Altas due to her commitments with the national team.
“A win is a win. We will take it,” said San Sebastian coach Roger Gorayeb, whose team improved to 1-1 while also dealing the Lady Altas to a 0-2 start.
Jolina Labiano registered 16 points while guest player Ryzabelle Devanader added 15, including the game-clinching point.
Jamela Suyat topscored with 21 points for Perpetual Help, which fought back in the fifth set but just couldn’t muster enough strength to complete the comeback.
