MANILA, Philippines –Ferdinand Liguayan once again sparkled on both ends as Rizal Technological routed Ateneo, 8-2, Wednesday in the PSC Commissioners’ Cup at Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
The 20-year-old former Little Leaguer dished out a two-hitter in a no-relief stint as a pitcher and drove in the go-ahead run in the fifth to power the Blue Thunder to their fourth victory in as many games and tie idle Philippine Air Force on top.
Liguayan, a member of the fifth-placed Muntinlupa team in the World Series in South Carolina two years ago, also fanned seven batters while giving up four walks.
“I’m really prepared because we want to face the UAAP schools,” said the left-handed Liguayan, an electrical engineering junior.
With the win, the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association perennial champion RTU handed back-to-back UAAP champion Ateneo its first defeat in four games.
In the second game, Philab notched its second win with an 11-1 domination of University of the Philippines, which absorbed its fourth loss in six games.
Dragons had a field day in a 20-10 romp over Batangas State to improve to 2-1.
