MANILA, Philippines –A confident Arellano University squad tries to close in on a quarterfinal berth Thursday even as Adamson and Southwestern U shoot for second wins in the Shakey’s V-League Season 11 First Conference at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Riding high on their stunning five-set conquest of Ateneo last Sunday, the Lady Chiefs hope to sustain their fiery form against the St. Benilde Lady Blazers in their 4 p.m. duel.
Arellano is actually the surprise leader in Group A with two wins, including a three-set victory over SWU in its season debut.
But the Lady Blazers are also pumped up as they gun for their second straight win following their thrilling five-set win over the Lady Cobras the other day.
Adamson, toting a 1-1 slate, seeks back-to-back victories at 2 p.m. against an SWU squad that has dropped its last two games.
Stopping Pau Soriano, Shiela Pineda and Thai reinforcement Pacharee Sangmuang will be foremost on the game plan of SWU coach Jordan Praca, who hopes to draw the best from guest player Lutgarda Malaluan, Janelle Cabahug and Dyan Darantinao.
Arellano leaned on the heroics of Danna Henson to outlast Ateneo and she will be counted upon anew against the Lady Blazers.
Menchie Tubiera, Elaine Sagun, Shirley Salamagos, guest player Ronerry dela Cruz and top blocker Cristine Joy Rosario are also expected to step up for the Lady Chiefs who are the best spiking squad in the league with a 38.78 percent effort
Therese Veronas, Jeannet Panaga and Maureen Loren, who combined for a 60-hit output against SWU, will be at the forefront of the Lady Blazers’ attack.
