MANILA, Philippines—They have swooped down through the defensive arrows and took what would be the impossible: they took a “selfie” with the country’s most powerful man.

Yes they dethroned the De La Salle Lady Spikers, who ruled the women’s volleyball landscape of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines for three years, but the Ateneo Lady Eagles can boast another thing, a “selfie” with President Benigno Aquino III.

Once the formalities of their courtesy call to Malacañang Thursday afternoon ended, smartphones were out and the ladies let out their inner fan-girls for Aquino, who is an Atenean himself.

Aquino, presumably, let 6-foot-2 Mary Mae Tajima, who towers over the 5-foot-10 President, whip out her smart phone and take the group’s selfie.

Team Captain Alyssa Valdez could not be found on the massive selfie, she, however, posted the group’s knee-bending attempt on Instagram with the elaborate caption “selfie.”
