MANILA, Philippines –Arellano clobbered St. Benilde, 25-19, 25-17, 25-16, on Thursday and kept a flawless record so far in the 11th Shakey’s V-League Season 11 First Conference at the Arena in San Juan on Thursday.
Now at 3-0 in group A, the Lady Chiefs are qualified for at least a playoff game for a quarterfinal berth.
“Honestly, we didn’t expect to start the league with three straight wins although I’m really impressed with how my players are playing,” said mentor Roberto Javier in Filipino.
Danna Henson and Jovielyn Prado combined for 25 points for the NCAA finalist, who sorely outhit their NCAA rival, 42-24.
Prado, who came off the bench, stepped up in lieu of the struggling veteran Menchie Tubiera, who only managed four points.
“She’s a blessing to our team, I’m surprised with how she’s responding to the challenge,” said Javier of Prado.
St. Benilde dropped to 1-1 in a tie with UAAP champion Ateneo, which yielded a five-setter to Arellano last Sunday.
