MANILA, Philippines — University of Santo Tomas bagged its first win in the 11th Shakey’s V-League First Conference after nipping Far Eastern U, 25-15, 19-25, 25-18, 25-13 Sunday at the Arena in San Juan.
The Tigresses muddled up the quarterfinal race in group B as they forged a three-way tie for second place with San Sebastian and FEU at 1-1 behind National University’s 2-0 slate.
Rookie Ennajie Laure, UST’s guest player who impressed with 23 points in her debut against NU, again came out firing with 17-points including three aces.
“She’s playing well as expected. We know that she can play her part. She’s an asset to us,” said head coach Odjie Mamon of the juniors MVP.
Jessey de Leon, Pam Lastimosa and Eiriel Cortez added 16, 15 and 11 points, respectively, for the six-time champion Tigresses.
UST peppered FEU with spikes, coming through with 60 compared to the Lady Tams’ 40, and got 11 points out off blocked shots.
The Lady Tamaraws, despite committing only 18 minutes, were led by the 25 output from sophomore Bernadette Pons and Marie Simborio in a losing effort.
