PSC chair opens volleyball tilt
MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Sports Commission chair Ricardo “Richie” Garcia hails the country’s return to the international stage as he graces the opening ceremony of the 2014 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship Tuesday at Mall of Asia Arena.
Garcia, the main speaker and guest of honor in the 12 noon rites, praised the leadership of the Philippine Volleyball Federation which was responsible in the country’s maiden hosting of the prestigious regional tournament.
Francis Vicente will call the shots for the host team, which will compete as the PLDT HOME Tvolution Power Pinoys in the tough 16-nation tournament PVF president Karl Chan and secretary general Otie Camangian said the association expects a strong Philippine showing and a smooth conduct of the nine-day event.
Christian Fernandez serves as captain of the Philippine squad, which also expects to get a lift from actor and sportsman Richard Gomez, JP Torres, Ronjay Galang, Jeffrey Malabanan, Alnakaran Abdilla, Jason Ramos and Rodolfo Labrador.
