Gems outshine Superchargers; Cagayan prevails

MANILA, Philippines — Cebuana Lhuillier compounded Big Chill’s woes as the Gems carved out a 65-60 triumph over the Superchargers to claim solo second in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup Thursday at Meralco gym.

James Martinez pumped in 13 points, including a key triple in the final stretch to lift the Gems past the Superchargers, who absorbed a second straight loss after also paying a P150,000 fine for staging a partial walkout in their last outing.

In the second game, Cagayan Valley also staged a strong finish to nip winless Derulo Accelero, 76-74, for its second straight victory.

The Gems trailed 53-54 midway in the final quarter before dropping a 10-1 blast to grab the lead, 63-55.

Cebuana Lhuillier improved to 3-1 behind idle leader NLEX’s 4-0 card.
