MANILA, Philippines — Adamson shocked Group A leader Arellano while defending champion National University stayed unbeaten in Group B as the two winners secured quarterfinal berths Thursday in the the Shakey’s V-League Season 11 First Conference at Filoil Flying V Arena.
The Lady Falcons rallied from two sets down to deal the Lady Chiefs their first loss, 17-25, 24-26, 25-14, 25-19, 15-11 behind Sheila Pineda and Pau Soriano.
Pineda unloaded 21 points built on 17 kills, two blocks and a couple of service aces while Soriano fired 18, including the match-clinching hit.
The Lady Bulldogs, meanwhile, streaked to their fourth straight victory with a 25-19, 25-23, 25-19 drubbing of Far Eastern University.
Dindin Santiago tossed in 13 hits and Carmina Aganon added 10 points for the Lady Bulldogs.
The Lady Falcons advanced to the next phase with a 3-1 record behind the Lady Chiefs, who wrapped up their elimination run with a 4-1 slate.
Adamson coach Sherwin Meneses also credited relievers Amanda Maria Villanueva and Ma. Erika Gel Alkuino, who helped the Lady Falcons’ pull off the upset.
“They really stepped up big for us,” said Meneses.
The Lady Tamaraws slipped to third in Group B with a 1-2 card.
