MANILA, Philippines — San Miguel Beer bolstered its bid for a twice-to-beat advantage after beating San Mig Coffee, 97-88, in the 2014 PLDT Home Tvolution PBA Commissioner’s Cup Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Import Kevin Jones scored 26 points and grabbed 16 rebounds while sharpshooting swingman Marcio Lassiter added 19 points and four assists for the Beermen, who tightened their hold of the second spot at 6-2 with only a game left to play in the elimination round.

“It’s all about bringing in the effort. We came off a loss and we wanted to bounce back,” said Lassiter, who went three-of-six from downtown.

Jones also waxed hot from long range- making four out of his six attempts – including a 3-pointer that gave SMB a 97-81 advantage with 3:38 left to play.

San Miguel rebounded after losing to defending champion Alaska, 78-89, two weeks ago in an out of town game in Biñan, Laguna.

James Mays tallied 15 points and 14 rebounds for the Mixers, who slid into a tie with the red-hot Aces in third place with a 4-3 record. PJ Simon also had 15.

San Miguel Beer closes its eliminations campaign against Air21 on Wednesday.
