MANILA, Philippines – Defending champion Alaska regained its form just as about Barangay Ginebra San Miguel made its run for a 83-73 win in the 2014 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Sunday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Rob Dozier topscored with 22 points while JVee Casio added 13 points for the Aces, who chalked up their fourth consecutive win after dropping their first three games.

“We set the tone in the first and we got the big lead. With that win we’re guaranteed at sixth [but] it’s going to be tougher from here,” Alaska head coach Luigi Trillo told reporters.

Greg Slaughter registered 20 points for the Kings with import Josh Powell leaving the game in the second quarter due to an injury. Ginebra fell to 3-5 with a game left to play.

Alaska took an 18-point lead in the first half before Ginebra closed the gap, 49-42, with five minutes left in the third quarter.

The Aces went on a 12-2 run to get their lead back to 17, 61-44, as the Kings never recovered.
