MANILA, Philippines — Filipino muay fighter Eugene Toquero has a strong left kick and a powerful left elbow while Malaysian prodigy Gianni Subba is good at taking down his opponents.

The contrasting styles of both fighters will be in full display in their flyweight bout during the One Fighting Championship: Rise of Heroes on May 2 at Mall of Asia Arena.

“He has good muay thai, good kicks, good elbows and good knees,” said Subba during a break in training at the Phuket Top Team gym in Thailand.

“He’s also strong in the clinch.

I’ll try to fight smart, stay away from the things that could knock me out and do the things that I’m good at,” added the 21-year-old who won his last three fights in convincing fashion.

Toquero, 33, has four wins and a unanimous decision defeat against Team Lakay’s Geje Eustaquio late last year.

Outside of the cage, Toquero is a gym instructor and trains local show biz personalities for a living.

“I will knock him out. I believe I have the edge when it comes to experience and skill,” said Toquero, a muay fighter for the national team from 2004-2009.

Subba said his foreign training partners at Phuket Top Team will make the difference.
