FEU Tamaraws test mettle of PH U18 cagers

MANILA, Philippines — Mike Tolomia tries to show again that he’s Far Eastern University’s next top guard as the Tamaraws vie for a second straight victory in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup Monday.

Tolomia, hoping to take over the leadership role following the departure of their ace guards, aims to lead the Tamaraws in their 4 p.m. duel versus the Philippine Under-18 Team at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

“This will be a further test for us as we work toward our overall team chemistry and our system,” said FEU coach Nash Racela.

Mapua, which lost to FEU on opening day, vies to rebound against Lyceum at 12:30 p.m., while Emilio Aguinaldo College and National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (Naascu) champion Centro Escolar University clash at 2:15 p.m.

The Tamaraws kicked off their campaign with Tolomia dropping a team-high 19 points in an 89-77 rout of the Cardinals last Saturday.

The Tamaraws are favored over the national under-18 boys, who are gearing up for two international tournaments this year.

Mentored by Jamike Jarin, the young Nationals are bannered by Ranbill Tongco, Paul Desiderio, Henry Asilum and Renzo Subido. Game tickets are available at the venue and all SM Ticket outlets.

Tournament sponsors: by Filoil, Flying V, Total, Hanes, Timex, Starmobile, San Miguel Corporation, Meralco, BDO, Silverworks, Gatorade, Gerry’s Grill, Reyes Barbecue, LGR, Brothers Burger, BPI, PBCom, Molten, CDO, Bayo, Douwe Egberts, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Oxycan, Red Logo, and Bacchus.
