Lyceum sinks 12 3s in win over Mapua
MANILA, Philippines — Lyceum rode on its hot shooting from the outside to get by Mapua, 92-83, in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup Monday at the Arena in San Juan.
The Pirates drilled in 12 3-pointers — the most in the league since the Adamson Falcons made 15 three years ago — with guard Dexter Zamora and Paul Soliman leading the shooting barrage with three triples apiece.
Rhoel Maconocido and Joemari Lacastesantos uncorked a couple each as Lyceum shot 41% from long range.
Article continues after this advertisementZamora finished with 24 points for the Pirates, who fell behind by seven points early before clawing their way back. Maconocido added 14.
Lyceum led by as much as 13 to end the third quarter but the Cardinals pulled to within six in the fourth quarter before the Pirates responded with a telling 7-0 run.
Mapua reeled to a 0-2 start despite drawing 24 points from Josan Nimes.
