The overseas training of Filipino athletes for the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea is under way.
Philippine Sports Commission chair Richie Garcia said the agency has approved the financial requests of several national sports associations for the preparation of their athletes for the Sept. 19 to Oct. 4 continental games.
Garcia, designated chef de mission of the Philippine delegation, said most of the athletes will either spend time in training camps abroad or compete in overseas tournaments while some will be provided with foreign coaches.
“Starting this month, the training of the athletes will be in full blast,” said Garcia. “And most of our athletes will hone their skills overseas.”
The PSC chief said the karatekas have left for Iran, the taekwondo jins and judokas are bound for South Korea and Japan, respectively, and the country’s wushu performers and fighters will go to China.
