Two more Shakey’s V-League semis slots up

MANILA, Philippines — Davao hopes to sustain its surprise run and reach the Final Four Tuesday even as Far Eastern University and Arellano dispute the other Group 2 semifinal berth in the Shakey’s V-League Season 11 First Conference at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The Agilas, the only provincial team to reach the quarterfinals, try to complete the semifinal cast in Group 1 against an Adamson side vying to stay alive at 4 p.m.

The Lady Tamaraws and the Lady Chiefs dispute the other Final Four berth in Group 2 at 2 p.m.

The streaking University of Santo Tomas (Group 1) and defending champion National University (Group 2) have secured the first two semifinal seats after improving their quarterfinal records to 2-0.

“We’re working doubly hard,” said Davao coach Shane Alagao. “We want to stay patient and continue trusting each other.”

“We’re a team that doesn’t feel pressured to win,” added Alagao, who hopes to draw big numbers again from May Agton, Jocemer Tapic and Princess Oliveros.

The Agilas are coming off a huge upset of UAAP champion Ateneo Lady Eagles in a thrilling five-setter, 22-25, 25-18, 25-27, 25-18, 19-17, last week.

A three-way tie among Davao, Adamson and Ateneo remains a possibility if the Lady Falcons prevail today and then lose to the Tigresses on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Lady Tamaraws hope that new reinforcements Rachel Anne Daquis and Jovelyn Gonzaga will again provide a much needed boost as in their straight-set rout of St. Benilde, 25-18, 25-18, 25-17, last Sunday.

“[The match] will determine who makes it to the semis so we’ll treat it as if it’s our last,” said FEU coach Shaq delos Santos.
