V-League: FEU’s Daquis-Gonzaga duo too much for Arellano

MANILA, Philippines — Guest players Rachelle Ann Daquis and Jovelyn Gonzaga proved their worth anew and Far Eastern University downed Arellano University, 25-16, 25-15, 24-26, 25-16, to clinch a semifinals berth in the Shakey’s V-League Season 11 First Conference at the Arena in San Juan.

Daquis topscored with 21 points and Gonzaga had 20 points to boost the Lady Tamaraws, a team who appeared out of it in the elimination and quarterfinal rounds and are now primed to make noise in the semifinals following a sudden resurgence with the arrival of their reinforcements.

“We relaxed in the third set and fortunately we were able to catch up,” said FEU coach Shaq delos Santos in Filipino.

“Our guest players really make a big difference especially with their experience when the girls are rattled,” added delos Santos.

Daquis and Gonzaga also combined for 21 digs.

Remy Joy Palma churned in 14 points while Bernadette Pons added 11 for the Lady Tams, who will be making their first semis appearance since 2010.

Danna Henson, a former FEU standout, led the Lady Chiefs with 11 markers.

FEU is now 2-0 since acquiring the services of Daquis and Gonzaga after scoring a 25-18, 25-18, 25-17 victory over College of St. Benilde last Sunday.
