MANILA, Philippines — Angelo Que swears he has gotten over the emotional toll that resulted in his final-round collapse in the last Asian Tour event in the country.
Now he is raring to win his second ICTSI Philippine Open when the event presented by the MVP Sports Foundation and PLDT tees off Thursday.
The 35-year-old, who let the Solaire Open slip off his hands at The Country Club in Laguna last March after signing for a fat 12 on the par-5 second hole for a closing 82, will try to touch off a streak of good finishes in the $300,000 event set at Wack Wack East.
“It was a lesson learned for me. I had a chance to win but blew it in one hole,” said Que, one of the favorites in Asia’s oldest national championship. “Things like that happen. That’s golf and that’s life. All you can do is see what you’ve learned and move on.”
Que will try to win his second Open six years after copping his first.
Miguel Tabuena, the 19-year-old prodigy, is also looking to atone for past miserable final rounds.
He was just one shot off Mardan Mamat of Singapore at the start of the final day in 2012 only to drop shot one after the other and sign for an 81.
Also in Laguna, Tabuena held the lead after that Que mishap only to lose steam and close out with a 78. Foreigners have won the Open ever since Que’s win.
Jay Bayron came closest in 2011 by finishing a fighting second to the United States’ Berry Henson.
