Younghusbands give Meralco Sparks star power
MANILA, Philippines – Loyola Meralco Sparks football club now boasts of the Azkals’ top dogs.
The Sparks upgraded their United Football League lineup Wednesday night by tapping brothers James and Phil Younghusband for the 2011-2012 season that starts October 8.
Article continues after this advertisementThe most recognizable Azkals members will play for the team for three years but their salaries are confidential, according to their manager Cathy Rivilla.
Still, the brothers are believed to have sealed a lucrative, multimillion-peso package from the Sparks, who finished fifth last season.
“Thank you very much, Mr. MVP. You have invested a lot in the sport,” James told Sparks owner Manny V. Pangilinan during the affair held at the Lighthouse in the Meralco building. “We are looking forward to a new season.”

Joining them are another set of Filipino-British brothers Darren, Mark and Matthew Hartmann. Mark and Darren played for the Sparks last season. Mark scored seven goals in three games.
