All-Adamson women’s softball title clash looms

MANILA, Philippines — Two Adamson teams remained in a collision course for a championship duel in the women’s open division of the Cebuana Lhuillier Summer Grandslam 8 Softball Invitational in Marikina Friday.

Still unbeaten in four matches, Adamson 2 was poised to clinch the top seeding with Adamson 1, which has a 4-1 slate, likely to gain the No. 2 seed.

Adamson 2 is made up mostly of alumni players, while Adamson 1 has the core of the Lady Falcons squad that won the UAAP crown early this year.

Brunei’s Chikara, with a 3-1 slate, has an outside chance of spoiling the all-Adamson final.

Chikara,  whose lineup  is powered by former Blu Girls, must hurdle UP-Diliman and Singapore to  reach the semifinals. Rizal Technological University will also dispute the remaining semifinal spot against Singapore.

Meanwhile, Philippine Air Force-1 will seek a sweep of the qualifying round against Singapore-1.

The Airmen, with a 4-0 card, is expected to be joined in the next round by Philippine Navy (3-1). PAF-2 was at 2-2.

Asaphil president Jean Henri Lhuillier expressed satisfaction over the number of teams that are seeing action this year.

“We’re very  happy  that  we  have  a record  turnout  this  year, particularly in  the  women’s  division  where  we  have  remained  among  Asia’s  top  teams,” he said.

The tournament is backed by Pera Padala, Cebuana Lhuillier Bank, Just Jewels, Le Soleil de Boracay, Cebuana Micro Insurance, Phiten, and My Singapore Food Street.
