Filoil caging: Scorpions, Tams stay unscathed

MANILA, Philippines –Far Eastern University survived a  scare  while Centro Escolar University sustained its surprising run as they stayed unbeaten in their respective groups Friday in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup.

The Tamaraws, banking on the trio of Anthony Hargrove, Mark Belo and Achie Inigo, turned back St. Clare, 86-82, to clinch their fifth straight triumph in Group B  at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

CEU blasted Holy Trinity College, 74-61, to roll to its fourth straight win, while National U downed San Sebastian, 76-61, for back-to-back victories in Group C.

Hargrove topscored with 16 and Belo added 15, including a triple that gave the Tamaraws an 84-78 lead after the Saints nearly wiped out their early 17-point edge, 41-24.

“It wouldn’t help us if we led by 20,” said FEU coach Nash Racela, who didn’t mind his side’s near meltdown. “We need to know the players we can depend on to deliver in the end game.”
