Frankie Miñoza suits up for Team
MANILA, Philippines — Frankie Miñoza hopes to provide the leadership and experience as he reinforces an already-formidable Team South against the North squad in The Duel 3, which unwraps tomorrow at Cebu Country Club.
Miñoza, the region’s former No. 1 player and winner of three local tournaments last year, is joining the country’s version of the Ryder Cup for the first time and his presence is expected to boost Team South in the three-day event organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments Inc..
“Not only will Frankie’s presence add depth to the South team but also add prestige to the event,” said PGTI general manager Colo Ventosa.
Article continues after this advertisementTeam South rallied in the singles to rule the inaugural staging in 2012 at Alabang Country Club but the North squad struck last year, also in the singles, to even things up.
Team South will be led by reigning Order of Merit winner and current leader Tony Lascuña and Charles Hong.
They will be joined by Elmer Salvador, Jay Bayron, Cassius Casas, Mark Fernando, Jhonnel Ababa, Elmer Saban, Marvin Dumandan and Clyde Mondilla.
Article continues after this advertisementThe North squad will count on three-time Asian Tour champion Angelo Que and Miguel Tabuena.
The team will also have Carl Santos-Ocampo, Michael Bibat, Mars Pucay, Edward Reyes, Gerald Rosales, Benjie Magada, Jun Bernis, Randy Garalde, James Ryan Lam and Jun Rates, winner of the ICTSI John Hay last March.
Artemio Murakami will skipper the North team while Team South will have Jerome Delariarte as captain.
