MANILA, Philippines — Gelo Alolino and Alfred Aroga sparked a big start by National University and the Bulldogs went on to crush the University of the Philippines Maroons, 92-76, Tuesday and stay unbeaten in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup.
Alolino finished with 19 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Aroga had a double-double of 19 points and 11 boards in powering the Bulldogs to their third straight victory in Group C.
Lyceum and St. Benilde both improved to 3-2 after tripping separate foes in other games at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Pirates banked on a strong second quarter to deal the winless Philippine Under-18 Team an 89-67 beating in Group B.
Joseph Gabayani came off the bench to finish with 18 points and Dexter Zamora added 16 to lead the Pirates, who outscored the young Nationals, 29-14, in the second period to build a 21-point buffer at the break, 47-26. The Blazers needed a late surge anchored on Paolo Taha to dispose of the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, 87-77, in Group C.
