MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine men’s football team shutout Laos 2-0 Thursday to boost its semifinals bid in the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup held in Addu City, Maldives.
After settling for a scoreless draw against Afghanistan on Tuesday, the Azkals finally found the back of the net as Simone Rota connected in the 40th minute.
Patrick Reichelt doubled the lead with a header in the 65th minute. Phil Younghusband had a chance to bury Laos with another goal but bungled an attempt in the 72nd.
The victory, a first for the Philippines over Laos, gives the Azkals four points in group B.
