Ace driver Vincent Floirendo aims for another podium finish after a historic run in the second leg of the Ferrari Asia Pacific Challenge 2014 recently at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Floirendo, the first Filipino to compete in the prestigious one-make racing series, finished third in the Coppa Shell category for newcomers in the Australian leg in April, just two months after his dismal run in the inaugural Sepang leg in Malaysia.
“We’re in the radar now,” said Floirendo, also a veteran racer in Formula 3, circuit and karting competitions.
“It’s my first time in all these racetracks, but hopefully, I’ll do well again. There’s a bit of pressure because I’m carrying the Philippine flag.”
The 46-year-old Floirendo will get back to action on June 8 for the third leg in Shanghai, where he expects Australian leg winner David Tjiptobiantoro of Indonesia to figure again in the top three.
Floirendo thinks anything can happen, just like in the Sydney race where he tempered his expectations after a disappointing Sepang stint where he wound up 22nd in the first race and did not finish the second race due to mechanical problems.
“I wasn’t expecting to finish in the top three,” said Floirendo. “Maybe the good thing was it’s the first time Ferrari had a race there in Sydney. It was the first time for all the drivers.”
