Top Asiad bets get P50M training budget

MANILA, Philippines — Favored to bring his winning act in the Asian Games, BMX racer Daniel Caluag finally received the financial boost he needed to shine in the continental stage.

Philippine Olympic Committee chair Tom Carrasco announced Thursday that Caluag and his brother, Christopher, were among those initially chosen to benefit from the supplemental budget of P50 million that the Philippine Sports Commission has allocated for the training of top-notch Filipino athletes to the Asiad.

The Caluags topped the BMX event in the 2013 Southeast Asian Games in Burma with Danny pocketing the gold medal by a narrow margin over Christopher.

Carrasco said the training of women’s softball team, the karatekas and triathletes Kim Mangrobang and Nikko Huelgas will be sourced from the supplemental budget.
